Sharkpup looked up. He had been playing in his garden for a while when he suddenly felt an ominous feeling. In the distance, he could see the landscape was slowly turning darker and darker: the blight had spread to where he lived, and it wasn't stopping. Soon enough, his house, along with the two next to it, would also be engulfed.
He looked around and saw none of his neighbours were outside, so they probably hadn't noticed. He decided to go warn them. He first went to Chiligator's house. He knocked on the door and waited, hoping Chiligator wouldn't take too long to come to the door. Chiligator opened the door, and before he could get a word in, Sharkpup rambled a quick explanation.
"The blight is spreading! We have to leave, quick! I need to go warn Pumpkin and Catnip too!"
"I'll come with you," answered Chiligator.
The two friends rushed to their neighbours' house. Pumpkin opened the door, and, after being filled in, turned pale.
"Catnip went off to explore on her own this morning, towards where you said you saw the blight! She might be in danger! What if she's hurt and can't come back, what do we do?" Pumpkin said tearfully.
"It's alright, we'll go save her!" Sharkpup replied, determined to help his friends.
"But that's too dangerous!" Chiligator exclaimed, looking frightened.
"What if we run into monsters?"
"It's alright, we'll protect you!" Pumpkin answered.
"And if you're really too scared, you can wait for us here. We'll come back for you right after. We'll be as fast as we can!"
Chiligator pondered for a few seconds. "No, I'll come with you. I don't want to be alone and I'm also worried about Catnip."
The three friends went off towards the blight, calling Catnip's name over and over. They were really hoping they'd get an answer before getting to the blight, or before it had spread towards them, but unfortunately, they weren't that lucky. They started to venture through the thick mist, still calling out Catnip's name, but suddenly, they heard a buzzing sound. Blight bugs had been attracted by the sound and were rushing towards them! One of them lunged towards Chiligator, but Sharkpup jumped in front of him and bit the monster, incapacitating it. He continued on biting the other monsters surrounding the group, but there were so many, it seemed endless.
"We need to help him somehow!" Pumpkin told Chiligator.
Chiligator thought for a bit, before remembering something. "I think I have a few battle plants at the bottom of my bag, I got them as a gift months ago and had totally forgotten about them. Let's use them now!"
Chiligator took out a Blastwort and planted it. The monsters started being hit by the projectiles coming from it, and eventually, the remaining ones ran away.
"We have to be quick," Pumpkin said, "or we might get attacked by more monsters. And then there's no way we'll be able to help Catnip!"
The friends resumed their search, and eventually arrived in front of a cliff.
"Looks like it's a dead end," sighed Sharkpup. "What do we do now?"
His friends couldn't come up with an answer. Then, Chiligator noticed something. "There's a charm over there!"
"It's Catnip's!" Pumpkin exclaimed, "I'd recognise it anywhere! She always takes it with her, so she can have good luck."
The three companions rushed closer to the cliff, and called out Catnip's name once more. A small voice emerged from beneath them. "Pumpkin? Sharkpup? Chiligator? Is that you?"
The friends breathed a sigh of relief. "Catnip! We finally found you! What happened?"
"I was out looking at all the pretty plants around here when the blight suddenly appeared and a big, slow monster appeared behind me, blocking the way towards home, so I ran towards the other way to escape it, but then I tripped and fell off the cliff. I tried to climb back up, but I got hurt while falling down, I can't even walk..."
"We'll try to help you. Chiligator, do you have anything that could help in your bag?"
The friends went rummaging and made a makeshift rope with a few objects they found. Sharkpup used it to go down and get Catnip back up, and then put her on Chiligator's back so he could carry her on the way back.
They rushed towards their homes, encountering many monsters on the way, thwarting them off as best as they could: they planted the few battle plants Chiligator had left, and when it wasn't enough, Sharkpup, Chiligator and Pumpkin would try to bite the monsters while Catnip would hiss to scare them away as well as bat at them with her tail.
However, the blight was spreading more and more, and more and more monsters were appearing. By the time they reached their homes, they were surrounded by monsters, and there was no way to get to the front doors. Chiligator had run out of battle plants too.
"Oh no! There's no way we can't get our belongings out now! But then we'll have lost everything!" Pumpkin started to sniffle, dejected.
"It's alright," Catnip reassured him, "We can build everything anew and get new things when we'll have found a new place to live. What's important is that we have each other, and that can never be replaced."
"That's true," the other three agreed, and Pumpkin felt a bit better.
They once again started to run, hoping to escape the blight.
After some long, long hours, they finally saw some ray of light and followed it. There, they saw beautiful plants, that had been unaffected by the blight. They continued walking, only stopping to eat and sleep. After a few weeks, they had gotten far from the blight, and they reached a town. They decided to stop and settle there. They managed to find a big home so they could live together and always be together like Catnip said, and they were happy.
